I'm a media brain scientist and ex 80s DJ who wants life to be like an 80s dance party

WSU Coug & Murrow College of Communication Professor

Co-director, Murrow Media Mind Lab

"Brain Friendly" media is my soapbox

Original Montana boy, wannabe Cowboy
I'm back safely at Paradise on the Palouse after my brainy inspiring creative media science adventures. I slept in 9 different cities and rode on 16 different flights but like the Coug I am, I found my way back home again to my Bolls pack.

Celebrating a milestone in my health and wellness journey! For the first time since 1983, I'm less than 200 pounds. A big difference from years ago being 335 pounds. Feeling fired up and energetic to do the good I can do. Here's to Spriritual Mental Physical wellness for us all.

Jackpot, like all of Creation, begs us all to do our best to overcome evil with goodness. Oh, and also have a "Jackpot" style weekend. #Romans12

Empirical evidence that AC/DC fires up my sympathetic arousal heading into the weekend. Hey, you can't do the science if you can't be the science.

My salute to all of us fighting to do good today. The perfect "walk up music," attitude and ear worm for the day. Take 5 min, google this classic and take a listen. Your brain will thank me. Stand up and be counted for what you are about to receive!

Throwback Thursday flex from this old 80s DJ to my best man, old 80s DJ, Dave Visscher. Vish is a friend in good, bad, and stuff in between. He sparked my health journey, during which I've lost 130 pounds. Here's wishing you a friend like that. The times require health and strength from all of us!

That snowy Paradise on the Palouse, Saturday, Jackpot kind of feeling. This is your reminder that fighting to do good in these chaotic times also means moments of re-energizing. I realize I'm privileged to have this luxury. So, for now, enjoy the weekend if you are also blessed to get to do so.

Snowy Paradise on the Palouse so a Montana Boy does what a Montana Boy does before heading to work for a day of using good Communication Science to do good. A younger Paul would've been out here in shorts, snow shovel in hand. However, getting older and wiser means I blow snow rather than shovel it.

Good morning from the Bolls pack and our Jackpot life. Thanks to all who gave us comfort with Lucy crossing the Rainbow Bridge. We're resting to get back to trying to do good. There's good work out there to do. Us humans are messing up, not loving each other and overcoming evil with goodness.

April 2012 to January 2025 God gave us our Sweet Beagle Lucy Belle Sweetpea. Her spirit is back to God. What a life! The Bolls pack lives on with Jackpot and us. We are all sad now, that is all.

Today, I'm especially grateful for getting to stay focused on doing the good work that I can do through good Communication Science with my new friend and colleague from Cooperative Extension, Pamela Rose. It's a treasure having a friend who brings out the best in your character and brain.

The things I learn by having Murrow Media Mind Lab students like Sita Ganugapati. She's shifting her research to focus on psychological processes underlying interactions with AI and showed me that people can now chat with Jesus. I'm staying on my soapbox about the importance of Media Literacy!

Neuronal Ned and I are grateful for Murrow colleagues like Ashley Gardipe, Director of Development. She not only works hard seeking support for the Murrow mission but gives our Murrow Media Mind Lab her brain for our Media Psychophysiology and Neuromarketing science!

Thanks KHQ Spokane for covering our WSU Murrow College of Communication team's H5N1 messaging work. Great interview clip by Dr. Nicole O'Donnell and I love that we got this anchor to say my favorite soapbox phrase, 'brain friendly."

Back to work with Dr. Yen-i Lee, the better half of my Media Brain, at our Murrow Media Mind Lab research ranch. Sunday Science trying to wrap data collection on an interesting video advertising, emotion, and branding Neuromarketing experimment.

Happy 2025 from Bolls 406 home! Here's to the year being as big (whatever that means to you) as the Montana big sky. A tip of my hat to your health, joy, and peace in this new year.

I finally saw "School of Rock" last night. It rocks!..couldn't resist that. I'm now inspired to spend New Years eve prepping my online MA persuasion class. Years ago, New Years Eve used to mean picking up extra money being a DJ at a party rather than prepping a class, but I do enjoy molding minds 🧠😜

"Our great nation now teeters on the brink of a widening abyss. Without immediate action, we are at genuine risk of civil conflict and losing our precious democracy. Americans must set aside differences and work together before it is too late."

I'm back in black today! I had a brain changing amazing fun trip to the University of Antwerp thanks to brilliant Communication Scientists and friends, old and new. Thank you, Bradley Warren and Wake Up Montana Non Stop Local, for helping get my jet lagged brain back in the saddle back home.
December 19, 2024 at 12:54 PM
University of Antwerp Belgium adventure continues tomorrow with this passion talk and meeting of the minds focused on politics and communication research. Thankful for the chance to think through using Media Psychophysiology to scientifically find and bring out the better Angels of our nature.

There's one person on the planet both brainy and fun enough to get this Montana wannabe Cowboy to wear a pink hat. Dr. Karolien Poels and I look "tough" at the Faculty of Social Science University of Antwerp Wild West Christmas party.
