Shit you just reminded me I emailed Gabe Newell decades ago to ask for his autograph (I was making a gift for a girl I fancied), I heard nothing back until two months later when I got a portal poster covered in autographs in the mail.

As someone who's been deep in both the smash and the pokemon scene, it feels like the worst of both possible worlds. Mixing extremely competitive personalities with people who are still developing emotionally leads to some really distorted understandings of basic social interactions.

I mean, one of the kindest competitors I've ever met is stepping back from in-person events because he's been inappropriately touched MULTIPLE TIMES PER TOURNAMENT, so... Yeah.

I think the gallon jugs of water on each desk proves they know their clientele very well.

Oh, I have a fix for the "everything's bigger" bit, remind me to share it when I get home.

Pretty much every PS1 and 2 game had subtle implications of dynamism without the devs even knowing that it was happening.

I can see why so many designers were unprepared for the yellow paint issue, though. Dynamic and breakable objects in older engines (even source) had subtle differences in rendering that players just kinda internalized. Breakable boxes didn't self-shadow, that kind of stuff.

TF2 has a long and storied history of griefing. There's a whole culture around checking every new map for out of bounds spots that continues to this day.
