Writing 250-400 words of feedback on top of margin comments on each student's paper is so time consuming, but when you see them apply that feedback and become better writers... it's pretty great.

It's great when a student gets an A...
but one of my students went from a D+ on his first ever university paper, to a C+/B- on his second, and I am so damn proud of him. He worked so hard coming straight from an Ontario high school to a Quebec university.
Sometimes grading is so rewarding.
