Almost all NOAA Research websites that rely on cloud services - including Amazon, Google and WordPress - are poised to disappear at midnight ET Saturday after a contract was targeted for "early termination." Labs may also feel the effects.

Radiosondes on weather balloons are essential for collecting data from the upper atmosphere for accurate forecasting. Due to the mass firing at NOAA, the NWS doesn’t have enough people to launch balloons. 🎈

To be clear: If there were to be large staffing reductions at NOAA and NWS—at appears is now indeed underway, with credible reports of larger further cuts on horizon—there will be people who die in extreme weather events & related disasters who would not have otherwise.

‼️The US-based @ipcc.bsky.social technical support unit (TSU) for Working Group 3 Co-Chairs has been terminated, and the US won’t be attending next week’s IPCC meeting where the AR7 chapter outlines will be approved.
