She/her. Editor. Dog person. Lots of things to other people, but unapologetically me, in the end.
How does one brush the underside of a long-haired cat? She never rolls over, even as a trap, let alone to allow brushing.

Lovely profile of one of my clients. I’m so proud of how far she’s come since I started editing her work. True dream client. www.thehelmsandusky.com/features/bra...

If medical transport says they’re going to pick your mother up at 6:00 p.m., they’d damn well better pick her up at least *close* to that hour. And if they give an updated time of 8:00, there’s no excuse for not getting there.

If you joined Bluesky during the Beta, congratulations, you are now officially a Bluesky Elder! You will be assigned a rocking chair, a single cloud to shake a fist at, and a Chesty Gandalf Action Figure and/or Orca pool floatee while supplies last. Enjoy your new, completely inconsequential status!

My son is the copy editor for his middle school’s newspaper this semester. (#proudmom) Is there a middle-school-newspaper style guide he could use? Nothing too intimidating. I want him to actually use it. #amediting, but trying not to.

I’ve been listening to the audiobook of “The Thursday Murder Club.” Joyce makes me miss the woman my mother used to be, though they’re not really that similar.

Somehow, whenever I start getting twitchy about the freelance life, someone pops into my inbox with a project. Not sure my heart can take the stress, though.

I’m job hunting. Anyone need an editor who can be either diplomatic or snarky, as appropriate, with experience in romance and Biblical studies? I would like to be able to say I #amediting in #Romancelandia, but I’m flexible.

I week from now, if all goes according to plan, I will be on a plane, about to take off for Disney. It’s been a long time coming and a lot of hard work by my son, for whom this is a reward. Now to get through the very busy week ahead.

I’ve been thinking about self-care recently. It’s hard work, making the right choice for one’s true well-being and not the immediate-gratification indulgence. Tips?

It’s good to be an introvert
One of the most important times to wear a mask is after you have attended a large gathering.

Wastewater suggests there was a 50%+ chance you encountered someone with COVID if you attended an event with 20+ ppl.

You can spread COVID before you develop symptoms, so now is a good time to wear a mask.

Do strip mall Chinese restaurant menus come preprinted, and the restaurant just puts their info on the front? Every chef has the same specials?

Last night: Every intention of getting up early to exercise.

This morning: I think I’ll take the day off and spend it in bed.

Reality: Have to go to work then take my mom to a doctor’s appointment.

It can be comforting to know that things happen in cycles. It can also be exhausting, if you dread the turning of the wheel.

We've had decades of research on UBI now, and the only thing holding it back it the insane Calvinist rot at the heart of this country's identity. UBI is like that Michael Pollan quote about food: "Give people money. Not too much,. Mostly cash."
Don't miss results just in this month from Earth's biggest UBI experiment: 6,000 people in rural Kenya getting cash. Result: lump sum at the start helped more than monthly payments, but both caused so much growth that even neighboring towns got wealthier, healthier, & safer! #ShareGoodNewsToo
The first results from the world’s biggest basic income experiment
Money always helps, but for the very poor, one lump sum can last a long time.

Help me plan my 2024! I have editing slots open from late January through February. Developmental and line editing are my jam (does anyone say that anymore?), but I also copy edit. Romance is my chosen niche. LGBTQ+ friendly.

I’m thinking about “organizing” a hangout in my town park this spring. No program, no cost, just put up signs inviting everyone to come hang on a Tuesday night. Has anyone done this before, and do you have any tips?
