It is a bit funny seing many people outraged about p-curve, after the well deserved critique by Moorey, but completely unfazed about the still dominant practice of using funnel plots and fail-safe n to claim absence of publication bias.
With common defense "that’s how other studies did it before"...

The Blue Horsehead Nebula IC 4592

A beautiful area in Scorpious constellation. Near the Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex adds an amazing object to the already beautiful area. Taken from Atacama.

Wildfire smoke is a new kind of weather. It can keep us from doing outdoor stuff we enjoy. It can force us to rethink our homes' filtration/ventilation. It can make us, or our kids or elders, sick. Climate change is substantially to blame, but people won't know that until we tell them. Repeatedly.
Wildfire health impacts continue -- but research shows that if we do not directly connect extremes with how they're being driven by a warming climate, being affected by disasters won't make us more willing to support + advocate for climate action. That's why it's SO impt that we talk about it!

Excellent and provocative lecture by @ulrichschimmack.bsky.social on measurement at the 4M winterschool. "It is hard to reward people for thinking."

"There is nothing wrong with exploring the data. How else will we discover new things? Especially when your crappy model does not fit."

Great history lesson from @lakens.bsky.social with the @psicostat.bsky.social group at the University of Padova. History is repeating itself, but we also get a little better after each crisis was the positive take away for me.

Behind the first door of the 100% CI advent calendar is a new blog post! In which I hand out unsolicited writing advice -- with a focus on writing about technical topics in an accessible manner, but most of it is fairly general: www.the100.ci/2024/12/01/w...
Writing about technical topics in an accessible manner
A wise man – I’m quite sure it was Brian Wansink – once pointed out that it is impossible to both read and write a lot. So, maybe reading a post about how to write just steals time from the more urgen...
