Just read Ultimate XMEN vol 1. I don't really have the technical vocabulary to elaborate much on my thoughts, but the way Momoko lays out the paneling feels very manga inspired in a way that feels fresh for western comics. So far 2 for 2 on the new Ultimate line. Hope the rest are just as good.

Just saw a headline saying dems need to drop the elitism if they want to win again, and it just reafirms to me that apparently there was nothing Kamala could’ve done to win. The Tim Walz pick was largely to appeal to those exact sort of ‘anti elitist’ people.

Just read Superman: Lost. Lots I could say about it, but I found it relevant to today the internal debate the book has about Space!Kansas, where one segment of the population has been voted out, because they're a bunch of crazy conspiracy theorists that don't allow democracy to function.

Feels like I'm supposed to say something like "FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT" but honestly, I can't blame anyone that is part of a vulnerable group for taking any out they can. Leave the country. Find a city where you'll be protected. Something. Do whatever you can to ride out the storm.

Weird thing with no evidence that I believe wholeheartedly: There is not a single person alive who prefers the live action Lion King over the original who has good politics.

My standards for my right wing coworker were already low, but I really wasn't expecting him to spend multiple hours today trying to argue that it isn't racist to say certain races are "genetically predisposed to being slaves."

Huh. So Killers of the Flower Moon didn't win anything? I wasn't expecting Best Picture, but I assumed Lily Gladstone was a shoe in for Best Actress. Granted I can't really say she was robbed, cause I haven't seen Poor Things. For all I know it was the better choice.

Undead Unluck and Blue Box were real standouts for me this week. Getting some insight into Soul and having him give commentary on the defeat of Beast was good lore building, and the match between Taiki and Haryu has me on the edge of my seat every week.

Just found out that Akira Toriyama is now dead. Really sucks. I was first exposed to Dragon Ball when I was around 9, when I saw Gohan turn Super Saiyan 2 to fight Cell on the family tv. Ever since it's had and always will have a place in my heart. Rest in peace, Toriyama Sensei. You will be missed.

Reading dialogue out loud during the editing process really is key. So much dialogue reads like it was never spoken, nor was ever meant to be spoken, by an actual human. Actual human have to, you know, breathe when they speak.
Yup! This is my (not-so) secret weapon as an editor. Every single time I told a client to read even just the dialog out loud, things improved tenfold.
Sometimes my background in theatre actually helps.
