After [redacted] number of years in Bloomington, I've finally made it to an IU soccer game! Now I just gotta make time to go to all the other random sports IU is good at, like diving or whatnot.

It might just be because I see them regularly for work, or because they're less-known and I can never shake my hipsterness, but I'm fond of aquatic caterpillars. Petrophila is a particular fav, because it's easy to ID and because the part that makes it easy to ID are the silly lil gills on the side

Grid 7: Mo(e)s, Bos, and Joes (this was an attempt at a Mo-only grid, but I stalled out at 5 and pivoted)

Grid 6: Just Some Guys (NBA edition). It's surprisingly heavy on former Hawks, which seems fitting for the Just Some Guys of NBA franchises

Back in the truck for another long ride to a field site, so it's time for more Remembering.

Oh you know it was Weston with somehow the most bafflingly dumb take

I had to educate my college friends on this today after one of them posted this tattoo pic and none of them understood why I was saying Carly Rae was one of the two objectively valid + correct choices here. As for the third, I get why someone would say TSwift, but that doesn't make them right.

@evelynshh.bsky.social did have some light constructive criticism about brushing the cars off *before* shovelling rather than after, but I blame that on having to chase a toddler who wanted to help shovel but absolutely not brush

Well if that ain't just a perfect microcosm of liberal vs progressive/leftist problems in America

For context, here's some employers of similar size to the number of people who are getting laid off at once here. Imagine the economic catastrophe of one of these companies simply ceasing to exist and all of their employees flooding the market at once.

Would something nested like this make sense? If you want the regional comparison to be more prominent, you could flip the region to be nested within occupation instead. Since sex and cit are currently independent, you could prob split this into separate tables for each to make it a bit cleaner too

9/10 of these picks are objectively correct and should be HoF locks. I am open to discussion on vote #10 (currently Pettitte, but boy do I not feel strongly about him vs the field here).

Today, my toddler managed to stuff basically all of these markers into this ukulele, almost completely silently and without being noticed. Truly a "I'm not mad, I'm legitimately impressed" parenting moment if there ever was one.

Love coming home to see news that the cops have planted a fucking sniper on the roof of the IU union after less than one day of Gaza protests on campus. As pretty much always, the protesters are never the ones to start escalating the situation

Just read this new article from @kstackwhitney.bsky.social, and it is something that should probably immediately become required reading for ecology/env sci students. This paragraph in particular just absolutely knocked it out of the park for me. Now to convince my coworkers to read it...
