(2) they then asked, in my temp. absence, her 90 year old sister, who had memory loss & hadn't a clue what she was signing, to sign that my dying mother would be charged XXXX for a private room to die in. My mother paid for ages into a private plan so she could die with dignity. Will *never* forget.

And some public hospitals buy beds in private hospitals which us another money spinner.

Emergency care is the most expensive type of care which is why private hospitals offer limited Emergency care

They also often refuse to take back their patients who get infections and send them to the nearest public ED.

That's 1 of the reasons the EDs are crowded. Sick people getting sicker and coming to ED urgently needing diagnostics.
