Allowing myself some nostalgic election-coverage watching, but we'll never top that time Karl Rove got so pissed about Obama winning Ohio that Megyn Kelly had to take a remote crew down the hall to double check with the nerds.

Given the body of art and media we have on AI, robotics, and androids, is it possible to design and market something like this in a way that isn't viscerally terrifying? www.1x.tech/neo

Exactly. I don’t want to fight the far right and the U.S. government with violence for the same reason I’d rather challenge LeBron James to a game of Scrabble than basketball. I have a shot of winning only one of those.

Cultural divides Gen-Xers can't cross #238: There was a guy on TV all the time whose name was pronounced "Dick Butt Kiss" and nobody said anything about it!

Are we receding from the time when a person in a button-up shirt and tie could make a living keeping a McDonald's dining room in order, or are we being rushed toward a time when that person is staffing the whole restaurant and the customers are mostly serving themselves? youtu.be/fsZ1mUjnMVg?...

I, honestly, take this as validation for staying pretty unengaged with all of it until after the new year. We need to rest up because next year is going to be rough.

A hard lesson we all learned on here is that maintaining a blocklist requires the subscribers to trust the person who is maintaining it, and that it’s very very easy to abuse that trust. So please do vet your block lists before you subscribe to them!
It’s very easy to slip your own grudges into a blocklist so I appreciate the clarity of the criteria here

I don't necessarily expect to have a problem encountering these blocklist a-holes in the wild, but it's a civic duty to do it. We all get vaccines to build the herd immunity.
still adding accounts but if you want a one click to block all these “there are only two gender” fuckknuckles you can sub to this list

(note this is not a general anti-trans list, just single purpose atm)

Yes, I am proud of the fix job on the broken arm supports of this curb-find Adirondack chair. But the real pride is in how I am currently just sitting in it without obsessing over the sloppy drill work and complete lack of sanding or finishing.
