I usually post "The Woman in Green" on Halloween, I guess in the chaos of the past couple of weeks I forgot.

It's still probably my FAVORITE piece of writing I've ever done. It's. So. Good. (I don't usually say that about myself - but, y'know, I will in this case). theappendix.net/issues/2013/...

I went out to lay on my deck for a bit - weather is lovely, last gasp of niceness before winter gets its claws in us. The sky is really pretty right now.

Well, Wumbum is home. I’m letting her hang out on her side of the couch for a while before she goes into the Thai water jug with Torres.

Very engaging and informative talk by @mcgreenesd.bsky.social on "Socialism at Altitude: Chinese Mountaineering, Mountaineering in China" —so glad that UCI's Long Institute has shared the video, because the visuals are amazing.
Socialism at Altitude: Chinese Mountaineering, Mountaineering in China
This talk examines historical attempts to climb the highest mountains in the People's Republic of China. Much has been written about mountaineering from a Western perspective - but what does this…

I'm giving a talk at UC Irvine on Oct. 6 on my mountaineering stuff - it'll also be on Zoom & posted to Youtube later. I'll do more promo as the date nears, but isn't this a good poster? I'm going to ask one of our office staff to print me off a copy so I can put it on my office door.

Things I love about BZN: mountains, not really pictured here but they’re impossible to ignore; the fact I don’t worry about locking my car or house; the way summer storms look when they’re rolling in.

A favorite former student inquired about my favorite ‘aesthetic,’ I responded by saying I found that a weird question but sent photographs to illustrate what I think my aesthetic is. This one is most representative: Austrian porcelain horses, Chinese propaganda & Suzanne Farrell.

We cleared the 24 man savage raid on the last pull of the last session for us. It was fun (and aptly named - a lot of chaos!), but I’m glad to be getting back to normal 8 man savage in a week! I have no idea how ppl raid with such big groups in WoW.
