Honestly, there should be a nationally funded search engine that’s run by public universities. Not going to get that with current administration but would love to see something like Wikipedia get formed but for search engines.

Can't you do this in libraries

And now with Trump as president and Musk in ascendancy, this seems like a handy way to avoid losing ad spend on his platform.

Even though your ad could show up beside AI slop, misinformation or outright Nazi propaganda.

Losing dollars to save pennies.

I think Zuckerberg was planning on cuts and getting rid of fact checkers and replacing them with AI, but I think the AI hasn't panned out the way he would have liked.

In other words it sucks, like most unmonitored AI.

I had to come up with a workaround by setting up a second Facebook business account on hooking the existing pages to it so that we would be able to advertise again but it was an annoying roadblock.

Weird thing is the same thing happened to other people I know who work in the industry.

I had a look through all our ads and our organic content to see if there was anything even resembling a violation or that could be pulled up. I could find nothing, and no post had been flagged.
Eventually when I got answers from Meta, they told me it was down to the AI software being overzealous.

Banning algorithm based feeds seems like a no brainer given what gets boosted.

i disagree that it's worse in any material way, but I'm fine with TikTok being banned and support banning basically all algorithmic social media
This argument actually gets stronger when you add in the unspoken part, which is that our lack of influence or oversight means that the CCP has that ability, and that’s worse.

But some sort of safeguards for democracy and some accountability for these platforms and the people posting on it just seems like common sense. You can't just yell out hate speech on the physical Town Square, not sure how zuck suddenly justifies Musk saying it's ok on the digital one.

Knee jerk reaction for me was that it seemed perfectly reasonable to ban Twitter here in the EU but seems rash to ban TikTok in US but when I put the two thoughts together that doesn't make sense. Can't just ban it if you don't like it, madness lies that way.
