Business leaders are speaking out against the UCP's separatist drift.

Lawyers & judges are rising up against Premier Smith's threats to judicial independence.

Real conservatives are realizing what we've been saying for years.

Jared Wesley and Ken Boessenkool: Danielle Smith is not a conservative
Her politics amount to libertarian-laced populism, directly opposed to the sort of principled, incrementalist politics Albertans have had before.

This is a monumentally irresponsible move. Whoever advised the premier should resign or be fired.

Smith shouldn't just withdraw the threat. She should apologize for threatening to cut off Albertans' access to their own justice system.

Tomorrow.

The two leading contenders for prime minister have deep personal roots in the West.

Yet Conservatives in the region argue that the West is "left out" of national decisionmaking? And that there's a "national unity crisis"?

You don't have to believe them.

Western Conservatives spill a lot of ink over how alienated they feel sending dozens of MPs to sit on the opposition benches election after election.

Far less thinking goes into the role of those same Conservatives in preventing the party from winning enough seats elsewhere to form government.

This is the clearest evidence yet that the UCP considers itself a northern wing of the MAGA movement. From the leader, herself.

I suspect there are serious national security discussions about cutting Alberta out of foreign relations entirely, after hearing this.
~Here is the full Breitbart interview confirming Smith asked the U.S. adminstration to "put things on pause" to help Poilevre get elected as PM as she believes he aligns with Trump on many issues and the "new direction of America."

One of the hallmarks of liberal democracy is the peaceful transfer of power.

That relies on both elite consensus around conceding defeat and losers' consent among the masses.

Danielle Smith's behaviour this week has raised genuine concern on these fronts. +

No AB govt has played a more heavy-handed role in AHS than Danielle Smith’s.

They’ve replaced the CEO 5 times, the Board twice, reorganized, decentralized, allegedly messed with contracts.

Nobody’s believing Danielle Smith’s fiction that AHS is somehow separate from her. She made sure it wasn’t.

All warfare, even economic warfare, is based on asymmetry. Lucky for Canada, if Trump makes good on his tariff threat, we have lots of ways we can affect him and his friends personally.

Let's get creative- and once we get through that moment of crisis, we need to get serious about nation building.👇
SO DONALD TRUMP HAS DECIDED TO ANNEX YOUR COUNTRY
Somewhere, around Christmas, it became clear that Donald Trump wasn’t entirely joking about wanting to annex Canada. Here's what we can do.
