Decided to finally crack open my Zatoichi box set and start watching it tonight. First movie is a stone cold classic for sure.

Angel's Egg was good. I'm glad I got to see it in a theater. The guy who showed up 5 minutes late despite there being like 30 minutes of pre-roll that ran after start time and then fell asleep and snored for half the movie was less good though.

I’m late to Panty and Stocking Season 2 because I saved it to watch with my friend. This Jack Kirby episode is genuinely insane. This might actually be the best thing Trigger has ever made.

It’s wild how much worse English version of the first episode of the 1980 Astro Boy is. I wonder if they didn’t think Atlas was coming back so it was fine to cut that whole storyline or maybe thought the material was too dark for kids.

Project Blue: Earth SOS is complete. Was fun as a kind of throwback sci-fi thing, since it's adapting a book from the 50s. It was very surprising just how many people died in the show though, including multiple members of the main cast.

Ever since I found out the PS5 is extremely good at upscaling DVDs (for my 1080p TV at least) I have been having a lot of fun buying random cheap anime DVDs and just watching them.

I know a lot of it comes down to the quality of the source but I’m still consistently surprised by how good a lot of the discotek SDBD releases look. Though I’m sure a lot of it is also nostalgia lol

My favorite part of L-Gaim is that I don't know if they made the empire characters look like they're from Glam Rock/Hair Metal bands because the show is called Heavy Metal L-Gaim, or vice versa. Anyway, here is a computer screen from episode 23 where they just used music titles as English gibberish:

Very good ending to CITY. I wish the ending didn't feel as definitive as it did because I would really like them to make more if/when they can, but what we got was extremely good. Guess it's time to go read the manga.

I don't know enough about old EU Star Wars stuff to know if it's first, but extremely funny that in 1984 the Sunrise team was like "What if we put lightsabers in L-Gaim?" and then by the time they are doing the OVAs they are already doing the double bladed lightsaber like 14 years before Episode 1.
