Assistant Research Prof, Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies @ Brandeis University. Jewish studies and sociology. Writes broadly about contemporary Jewish life using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Might have a space laser.
It's also not true. According to Pew's 2020 national survey, only 37% of US Jewish adults identify as Reform (see graphic). It's much lower in Canada.

I don't know about you, but I was always taught a "majority" is 50% plus one, and 37% sure seems like it's less than 50% plus one.

I keep coming back to this article, from 2023, showing that far-right extremists use antisemitism and Islamophobia interchangeably to promote hatred of both Jews and Muslims. It's a game to them; whichever stochastic terrorist causes the most harm wins.

There's a recent article about how far-right actors on the internet use hatred of Jews and Muslims instrumentally to promote greater hatred of both groups.

Biblical scholars know that if you look instead at the Gospel of Mark, which predates Matthew, you get a much less saccharine take:

I have plenty of scars to prove that all happened without phones in the ancient times when I was in school. Neither my anecdotes nor yours constitute data. Now, if you want to make a case that American schools are different, that variable wasn't considered. But if you actually read the article:

From the University of Wisconsin Hillel newsletter, this caught my eye. Not the student; I've never met him. The mantle on the Torah. I know those names anywhere; that's the Torah scroll I read from every week until I left for college. When my shul closed, the Torah was donated to UW Hillel.

That's the number from just the Jewish respondents, and, frankly, I wonder about the 5%. But to your point, here are the numbers comparing Jews to the general public, and it's still encouraging news.

I want to be clear I would *never* suggest doing this. However...

If you locate Google's global headquarters on Google Maps, click on it, then click on "Send Product Feedback" on the lower right side of the screen, you can suggest a better name, like "Gulf of Mexico."

I don't know the artists myself, but if you have friends in Portland, Oregon, there's a good chance someone will know one. In their community study last year, we found the following:

This is your annual reminder that if you work in fundraising and hope to solicit end-of-year donations, you should not address a potential donor by the wrong name.

More people are going to have to learn about stochastic terrorism over the next four years.

I think it's far more likely the problem is people who think rocket science is hard while understanding the way people think, feel, act, and vote is easy, even though they get it wrong almost every time, even when they win.

In 1948, polls predicted Dewey would defeat Truman. You've probably seen the picture of a triumphant Truman holding up the Chicago Daily Tribune with the headline, "Dewey Defeats Truman." The polls missed a late swing in voter preference.
