Another field work photo from Yukon, Canada. This one shows pH dependent mineral precipitation at the confluence of two streams. The white colour is from aluminum precipitates and orange colour is from iron precipitates. This phenomenon results from natural weathering of shales.

Field work photo seems like a good first Bluesky post. This acidic, metal-rich pond is fed groundwater discharge from shales in the Ogilvie mountains north of Dawson City, Yukon, Canada. Lots of interesting (bio)geochemistry to study…looking forward to a return visit.
