Hint: Don’t underestimate one of Maryland’s smallest birds! It can survive cold temps that would have others running for cover – the cover of a warm bed piled high with blankets! Their sweet sounds and slick plumage bring a welcome delight across the state on slower winter birding days.

Hint: This species can nest independently, but is more well known for its colony set up with distinct mud-based nests that are tucked up and under places such as building overhangs.

Frederick is doubling down on its birdy status this week, as it hosts the annual convention for our partner, the Maryland Ornithological Society. The convention will be from September 26–28, and promises to be a lot of fun!
