Reminder on World AIDS Day—

I am 55, and I remember the grim death sentence of AIDS in the 80s/90s, I lost SO MANY people. Funerals almost every week. People I loved were considered disposable.
A little reminder: when AIDS was new, and considered “the gay plague” economists Richard Posner & Tomas Philipson gave cost saving advice to the Reagan administration - let them die, because it will be cheaper and save on Medicaid and Social Security payouts.

How it should be. America is meant for every person of goodwill, regardless of color, religion, gender, or anything else. E Pluribus Unum.

One of the AIs in William Gibson's novel "Neuromancer" (iirc) spoke of "songs of time and distance". I always think of that when I hear songs that make me yearn for places and things that never were.

Today is the anniversary of the Gettysburg Address. The ending of the speech always reminds me of the America I want to believe in.
