Keine Ahnung, ob Nerds kaum spielen. Aber selbst wenn 100% der Linux-Nutzer spielen würde, wäre die absolute Verbreitung von Linux auf dem Desktop selbst mit 3% immer noch zu gering, um für Spiele- oder Malware-Hersteller wirklich attraktiv zu sein.

Ich bin froh, dass ich höchstens mal Tetris spiele – oder „Thru the Wall“ auf einem ZX-Spectrum-Emulator. Da fiel mir der Abschied von Windows wesentlich leichter.

Klar geht das – es lohnt sich für die Entwickler aber finanziell nicht, weil das Jahr des Linux-Desktops immer erst das nächste ist. Andererseits: Würde es sich lohnen, würde sich auch Linux-Malware lohnen.

Interessanterweise begründet sie die Vergebung damit, dass ihr christlicher Glaube diese von ihr „verlange“. Dabei kann Vergebung (wie Reue, Scham usw.) authentisch nur aus sich selbst heraus erfolgen, nicht durch Imperative von außen. Ihre Aussage wirkt daher wenig glaubwürdig.

Was ich die wenigsten wissen: Das weitgehend als schlicht gegebene Geschäftsmodell der Verlage wurde erst in den 50er Jahren von niemand geringerem als Robert Maxwell (heute evtl. bekannter als Vater von Ghislaine Maxwell) erfunden und als Standard etabliert.

"The way to make money from a scientific article looks very similar, except that scientific publishers manage to duck most of the actual costs. Scientists create work under their own direction – funded largely by governments – and give it to publishers for free; the publisher pays scientific editors who judge whether the work is worth publishing and check its grammar, but the bulk of the editorial burden – checking the scientific validity and evaluating the experiments, a process known as peer review – is done by working scientists on a volunteer basis. That this was just a distraction because you don't think ID cards are "nice things" in the first place was fairly obvious –but my point is that you're not giving any reasonable argument as to why they're not.

Anyway, I was referring to your argumentation - which, instead of describing the actual negatives of an ID card system, focussed on what might happen it ever were to be privatised.

They're certainly convenient compared to having to carry a passport or utility bills in case you need to prove you are who you say you are. 99.9 per cent of the time they're just another credit-card sized item in you wallet.

You argument boils down to "we can't have nice things because they'd be privatised anyway". There may be aspects about ID cards that aren't nice, but the privatisation argument is not one against them.

Yes, privatisation is eating into the NHS. Overall it's still not private, though. GPs are private, but covered by the NHS. It's still a far cry from fully private healthcare as in the US.
