#HamOnt Please see my Statement regarding the tragic incident regarding a City of Hamilton Crossing Guard today. I am heartbroken to learn of the tragic incident that took the life of one of Hamilton’s dedicated crossing guards today. On behalf of the City of Hamilton and our entire community, I want to extend my deepest condolences to their family, friends, and colleagues, and to everyone touched by this terrible loss. Our crossing guards are part of the fabric of our neighbourhoods — familiar faces who help keep our children safe each and every day. Their care and commitment mean so much to Hamilton families, and their loss will be deeply felt across our city. This tragedy is a devastating reminder of how fragile life is and how important it is that we all look out for one another on our roads. Everyone — whether driving, walking, or cycling — has a role to play in keeping our community safe. My thoughts are with everyone mourning this profound loss today.

STATEMENT FROM MAYOR ANDREA HORWATH – 2025 FEDERAL BUDGET "I was pleased to see the federal government's investment in Hamilton in yesterday's budget. This will mean more jobs and more housing for Hamiltonians. The expansion of the Container Terminal capacity at the Hamilton Port will create jobs, reduce gridlock by taking trucks off of local highways and improve air quality. The investment in the Downtown YMCA will bring much needed housing, and is a welcome commitment to a long-standing institution serving our City. These investments are much appreciated, and we look forward to continued support from the many programs announced yesterday."

We’re improving the customer experience and strengthening trust through a range of initiatives - for more info • Customer Service Improvements: A new online system for recreation registration and facility booking, an upgraded phone system with estimated wait times, and a citywide Customer Experience Strategy to make every interaction more consistent and responsive. • Language Access: Expanded translation and interpretation supports in over 80 languages, along with built-in translation tools on the City’s website to make information more accessible to all residents. • Public Engagement: For the first time, the city hosted both in-person and virtual sessions for the 2026 budget process - giving residents more opportunities to share their input on City priorities. • Transparency and Process Improvements: A redesigned performance dashboard to make City data clearer and easier to navigate, and pilot programs underway to improve the development approvals process. • Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA):Mandatory staff training in IDEA and Indigenous cultural competency, and annual Accessibility Awards celebrating those who champion accessibility and inclusion in Hamilton.
