If I'm being honest, I'm pretty excited for you to experience the series, as I have such a deep love for those early titles in it, and even have fond memories of the not so good ones that came later. There just something 'bout it that been comforting, with a lot rooted in the music and sound.

Wait until you visit the town of Silent Hill, 'cause you'll be introduced to Akira Yamaoka and his work on both music and sound design, and let me tell you, they are second to none when it come to horror.

Just personally speaking, I would just start listening to it, as there are currently over a thousand songs in it, not counting the music from past Final Fantasy titles. So there are many I haven't heard in years in-game, and some I just haven't due to what they are lucked behind.
