I at one point in my current campaign was using 4 vanguards with torpedoes, which accomplish a similar goal with an astonishing ~25% survival rate.

That's how it felt playing the demo for wizard of legend 2 a few months ago. It seems they really cut down how impactful items were. (The awkward movement and stilted npc dialog didn't help)
