like I hate cookie cutter generic mcmansions & “progress” marked by empty shiny capitalist chrome & concrete. I want homes, cars, cities to have character! And that means i want them to reflect the humanity that made them. so why would I want that same samey soulless algorithmic slop in ART of all things?! “Progress” genuinely SHOULD mean improving quality of life for the maximum amt of people. Think about it. Literally what else is technology or government for.

“To be a woman is a horror I can little comprehend.” Everyone who’s stayed in a bad relationship too long knows: If you stay after the Big Bad Thing, the once uncrossable line, all the other bad feels manageable in comparison. Henry makes an accomplice of her—or rather, she makes an accomplice of herself, a choiceless choice, when she binds herself to him. She knows who she is as his wife, for better and for worse. Like so many white “well-bred” wives of their class, she finds herself either complicit or utterly alone, so she chooses to be complicit in the hopes that she can rise with him, instead of being one of the bodies he pays someone else to hide. Until Carmilla shows her there is Here the monster is not the killing thing, but the thing that wakes Lenore to life. Monstrosity means at its core transgression, and therefore is defined against what a society has deemed appropriate. When society deems appropriate, then, the dominion of violent men who systemically and casually rise in each other’s esteem by wreaking harm on those who build their fortunes, “monstrosity” becomes the only true course for anyone who is not those men, so long as she wants to survive. Carmilla’s “monstrosity” lies within her honesty. She does not adjust herself for other people’s comfort, and she does so shamelessly, as she knows she deserves personhood as much as anyone else—more, if he’s a selfish monster with punishing appetites.

y father was the best white man i’ve ever known. born in 1930 nyc, experienced classism & antisemitism, worked as a longshoreman & more to put himself through school to work in public health. fought for civil rights all his life, was at the march on washington & beyond. notoriously picky about movies & filled my childhood with ghanaian & malian drumming. freedom song, labor song. #sinners is the first time since he died I thought fuck, I wish he was alive to see this movie.

"Impact Crater" centers two queer boys with queer relationships to their gender. It's about the specific queer, trans longing of wanting to be a boy, desiring boyhood, not only its personal identity but the rhythms of interpersonal intimacy that trans boys aren't often allowed to access. The gender euphoria that comes with being genuinely seen, and desired, by someone whose relationship to gender excites you, and makes you feel safe. It's about the alien making us recognize our humanity. About the simple fact of the wonders of space—a universe fuller and wilder, weirder and more familiar at once-making us reckon with the fullness of our own individuality. Queerness and transness as natural and thrilling as our place in the galaxy.
