I refuse to believe that the language of the academic humanities is unnecessarily opaque until I see any other form of equally advanced study provide an easily accessible lexicon.

The divide between art and science is a mistake | Ann C. Thresher

Mr. President: Instead of stealing Greenland from Denmark, I have a better idea.

In Denmark, everyone is guaranteed health care, college education is free, parents receive 1-year of paid paternity leave & workers don’t make less than $22 an hour.

I don’t think this kind of carer gets a lot of consideration in flexible work discussions. Part time? Yes. Flexi hours? Sure. But full time with occasional, unpredictable periods of part time work, before shifting back to full time? I’ve not seen it, but I do hope it is happening somewhere.
My carer responsibilities are unpredictable. Caring for an elderly parent is like that. This means that I don’t need a fixed flexible arrangement, I need a flexible flexible arrangement.

In my HR days, I saw acquisitions fail not because the numbers didn’t add up, but because the "acquired people" didn’t bite. Watching the migration from X to Bluesky, it’s clear: the sink didn’t make it either.

Medieval science - drawing on Greek doctor Galen - believed women needed to reach climax to conceive.

Let’s just say, if Galen were right, our species might not have made it this far
