I’m not sure it’s enough if the targets are achieved. People are seeking political inspiration and leadership and that needs to be clear and actually inspiring.

Yes I think that’s very fair. Early on in the process I thought I knew what I felt about it. I’ve really come to a middle point and am not sure what to think.

He’s a great minister but I do think he’s overstepped the line on this one.
By putting himself out there on a free vote related to his Department, he is having a strong influence on MPs, whether he means to or not.

Really interesting interview. Maybe you could do a long session on Afghanistan similar to the one you did on Iraq, with you quizzing Rory?

It’s such a complex question. I completely understand the difficulties MPs must be having trying to decide which way to vote, even if they know their own opinion confidently.
