As a reminder, Trump brought the state into Intel's capital to the tune of 10% this summer. It should also be noted that this could not be done anywhere other than the United States, as European companies are not sufficiently capitalized to provide a sufficiently high return to citizens.

I admit that the proposal is surprising in a country historically averse to any form of state interventionism, but I think Khosla is asking the right question: how can wealth be redistributed in a world where value is produced by machines?

To avoid social division and a potential revolution, a small portion of this capital would need to be “socialized,” without nationalizing companies.

His reasoning is based on the principle that if AI makes the economy massively productive but eliminates a large number of jobs, then capital will become the main source of income at the expense of labor (which is already starting to happen...).

He suggests that the US government take a 10% stake in all publicly traded companies to redistribute the wealth generated by AI via dividends.
