He blew the smoke out, thick, rolling it off his tongue as he put the joint out in a large crystal ashtray. Taking a large glass of whiskey, he sipped at it, his eyes not leaving Duncan. “We’re going out… soon… to a party. What’s the time?” Duncan looked at his watch. “Nearly 7 p.m.” “9 then, I guess…” “Dinner first?” Worried that the young fuck would drink on an empty stomach. A mellow smile crept on Spencer’s mouth. “You’re not my mum.” “No. But I have to make sure you’re not useless by the end of the night. Which means no drinking on an empty stomach.” “I’ll throw up then…” “Better than getting an ulcer and getting drunk twice as fast.” Spencer almost objected, poking his tongue out between his teeth, but his mind was drenched in that mellow peace weed brought, time bought, maybe. “Alright… mum… bring some food up.” “Me?” “Who else? You want me to eat? You serve it.” He laughed, soft, and gazed at the ceiling, floating a bit.

The inn keeper finds that young bard still lingering inside once he had closed and he's determined to throw him out...
“Get the fuck out of here! We’re closed!” The young man’s eyes took that puppy pleading light. Large, the flames shadow’s dancing in them. “I have nowhere to go tonight. Please don’t throw me out.” He had no doubt that that large man could pluck him up like a feather and throw him neck deep into the snow. “I told you. There’s nothing for you here and I’m not an inn. That’s down the road further.” He pointed a thick finger in that direction. “I don’t have coins… Please. I’ll sleep on the floor and will be gone in the morning.” Draegan walked close, determined to throw his scrawny ass out. Towering over him, his gaze caught on a bruise at the corner of his mouth. Without thinking, he glided his thick thumb on it. Soft. “How did you get this?” The bard winced. “I tried singing at the town square and somebody threw a pot of flowers at me.” “You said you were good.” Mocking. He took his hand away. “What’s your name, bard?” “Reylynn.” Draegan’s eyebrows shot up. “What kind of name is this?” Reylynn blushed. “I don’t know. My mother gave it to me.” Draegan narrowed his eyes. “And what about your father? He had no say in it?” The bard stammered. “I don’t know my father…” Eyes wide when Draegan just pushed his hair back from his left ear. “Oh, I see… a fae bastard.” He straightened, cursing softly. The bard’s eyes went wide. “What?” “Your ear can’t be mistaken. Slightly pointy… then your eyes… wider too, and that hair color? Not human… not entirely.” He pursed his lips at the shock in the bard’s eyes. “I see… your good mother just hid it from you that she was frolicking in the woods… a dangerous thing to do… fae males are bastards, they will grab maidens and fuck them until they can barely breathe. Several of them too.”

“Ok.” Looking around, he spotted a backpack on a hook near the entrance so he walked there, took it and swiped everything but the money in it. “A first donation to the queers.” “You don’t want the jewellery either?” “What for?” “As a keepsake… souvenir…” “I spent my life trying to forget them.” Laughing, he patted the bag. “Oh, hold on… you have a daughter and a grandkid?” He took the boxes out. “Choose something for them.” “No… it’s too much…” “You don’t have to shop for Christmas, old man, come on. It’s not too far.” “I can’t… choose. This is not decent.” “He was your friend. Just take some stuff… as a souvenir.” He laughed and opened the boxes. “Here, a necklace for your daughter and this bracelet for your grandkid.” Pushing them in his hand. “Don’t object because if you do, I’ll make you swallow them so you can’t give them back.” That hard laughter, Charles was swimming in shock but he didn’t dare object and held the boxes in his hand. “In that case, thank you. This is a very special gift.” “Is it? Oh… have his fucking watch too. Look.” He took the old man’s hand and snapped that expensive watch on it. “Fits like a charm.” Their eyes meeting. Charles was smaller, so he had to look up a bit at that tall man. Standing, as he forgot his wrist in that warm hand. Almost objecting. “You’re learning? Good.” Patting that limp hand. “He would have loved you to have it. He just didn’t have time to make a will, that shithead. Thinking he wouldn’t die…” Zipping the backpack he flung it near the entrance. “The money, we’ll take it to the funeral home and you can do the shopping of your life.” He spread his arms, shouting in that dead silence towards the ceiling. “See this, Dad? Aren’t you fucking happy now? I’m back.” He winked at Charles. “Like the show? Come, let’s see what the fuck they did with my room.”

Cedric and Jack are getting to know each other in a central committee arranged marriage, and Cedric is getting used to a life on a mining colony and with a man who shows some care for the first time in his life, and wants to take him out.
“You haven’t explored around?” “I went to shop. I’m not supposed to roam around without your permission.” “Ah, fuck…” he almost said something nastier but Cedric’s wide eyes filled with fear stopped him. “Ok… we’re going to a place where we can have a walk, ok? It’s sort of a park. Nothing too fancy, ok? Nothing survives here but plastic plants and trees but it looks ok. So?” Cedric’s heart raced. He had never thought of being taken out anywhere, Harlan had made sure to limit their outings to the bare minimum, but Jack seemed genuine, his eyes genuine in that worn face. Cedric came from a world of plastic surgery, on the quest of eternal youth. He could not understand why Jack let his face fill with wrinkles, hard lines too. “Yes, we can go.” “Great. Just fling a shirt on. There’s no need for a jacket; we just take the corridors and elevators.” They pulled shirts on, matching in color, that dark sky blue, as clothes were provided for the colonists. He walked next to Jack, glancing up at him sometimes, watching him greet some other men, curious glances thrown at them with some smiles. Taking an elevator, and more corridors, and a last elevator. Cedric was trying to memorize the route they were taking but he had given up after the third corridor. Eyes a bit wide when the door opened, and he faced that huge domed space. There was light here, even if artificial, imitating the sun as best as it could, with a fake sky projection churning on that dome. In the middle, a small park, fully artificial where families were picnicking, and kids were playing, chasing around. Kids… It almost seemed like home. Almost. Shops, restaurants, and cafes lining that space with people ambling around, or sitting, eating, and drinking. Jack’s voice. “Neat, huh? I know it’s not the same as back home, but it’s good for the nerves when you had it with darkness and this shit weather.” Cedric looked at him, moved. “Thank you.”

The first time my MCs meet in the pathologists' office when grief stricken detective Donovan goes there to inquire about the victim's autopsy and meets the new doc in town. (cw talk of autopsying a child) (2 texts)
Nate’s eyes roamed his face. Young. Maybe close to his thirties. Hard to tell. A nicely sculpted face, with a mouth in a half-smile. Watching him fire up a small hotplate up and scoop some ground coffee in a metallic coffee maker, or so it seemed, adding water, he screwed the two halves together and put it on a plate. He sat then, and put his long fingers together, crossing his legs. “So… detective… what can I do for you?” “I came to ask how you’re progressing on the kid?” “I haven’t made much progress, I’m afraid.” “Oh…” He spread his hands with a small smile. “Dissecting a body needs precision and my full wits. It’s a kid. And even if you’ve signed up for this job, it can get at you. So, I’m waiting a bit to digest the idea.” “Oh… ok… It’s not like we have the whole day, you know?” Vaguely pissed, his eyes drifted to that bizarre coffeemaker which had started splattering and gurgling. The man rose and took two small glasses off a shelf, filling them with that fuming dark coffee. He gave one to Nate and sat with the other. “To your health, detective.” Nate’s eyes went a bit wide at that small glass. “Uh… sure…” “Taste it.” He had that small smile on, his lips curved up. “Don’t mind the size.” Nate looked up at his voice, at how he had curbed that last word, but those green eyes stayed unfazed. He sipped at the coffee and blinked in surprise. “Oh… this is actually quite good. Thank you.” “Better than that washing up soup you’re used to.” A slight accent in his voice. “Yeah… very funny, doctor…?” “Doctor Rainier.” “You’re French?” “Half.” He cocked an eyebrow at Nate’s puzzled face. “Stunned?” “No, I…” “And what is your name, detective Donovan? We’re having coffee, might as well become a bit more friendly.” “Nathaniel.” His heart raced a bit, because he rarely used his name in full, but didn’t feel like sharing his nickname either, the guy vaguely irritating already with his pompous behaviour. “Nathaniel…” It came out tainted with that French accent, and Nate’s chest warmed a bit. What the fuck… “I’m Eric.” “Sure… Eric…” He almost stumbled on the word and the man smiled. “Ok. Nice meeting you. When do you think you’ll be done with him?” “Nathaniel… do people call you like this? Or Nathan? Just Nate?” He swallowed; a bit mad. “Uh… Nate… for friends…” “Fine.” His lips curled up. “I might be done tomorrow, same time. Might be in the mood.”

“Nobody has ever passed the last test. I lied too. They joined my army of the dead. But you managed. Which brings a new era to Andarakh. And new powers to you, khirion. Now, drink and lie back. I need to shackle you, so you don’t leap from that table.” “You said it’s painful.” “That is a statement not to be underestimated.” Darven drank, grimacing at that bitter taste. He lay back, the lights and shadows dancing above him. “What… what did you give me?” “Something to help numb the pain.” He shackled Darven to that stone slab by his wrists and ankles. Patting the chains. “Tight and strong.” He took a large dagger from his belt, the very same Darven had used in that last room. The chanting amplified then, words Darven could not understand, shivering with cold and fear. “Ready?” “I don’t know…” “I need to have an answer, khirion.” Fed up, losing his voice almost as the world turned. “Yes… ready…” Darven howled at the pain, the first cut down his left thigh, slicing across. Blood rushed out, dark, sliding into the rivulets, feeding into those holes in the ground. Khraal’s soft chanting. His right thigh, the pain like lightning, something he had never felt before. He arched his back, tugging at his shackles, but they held tight. “Stop! Stop!” But Khraal didn’t listen, sliding the dagger up to his arm, cutting deep. More blood. Chanting. Darven gulped in air, moaning, tears rushing down his face. Gods… The lights dancing as his ears buzzed. Another cut, the left arm. Trembling as his blood left him, that cool cold invading his body. “Repeat the words.” “I… I can… can’t…” Whispers, but Khraal slapped him awake. “Repeat the words.” Darven's lips trembled, waiting, trying to keep his eyes open as he swam into that sea of pain. “God of Death, I surrender to you…” “God of Death, I surrender to you…” A mere whisper, his lips bubbling up his bloodied saliva where he had bitten his cheeks. “Fill me with your power.” “Fill… me with your power….” His whispers died in the increasing chanting. “Take my blood as offering.” “Take my blood as offering…” Khraal lifted a large cup above his head, but Darven could barely see, his vision blurring as his mind was trying to go. Khraal’s voice, deep. “It is done.” Chanting. Darven saw the cup tilt, blood pouring out. His eyes went wide but that warm blood just poured on his face, hitting his parted lips. A thirst there he had never known, so he opened his mouth, wide, letting it splatter into it, gulping it down as it soaked his face, his hair. More. A steady stream as he drank, blinded by blood, his eyes shut tight at that steady warm stream. Drinking until he felt full, his flesh pulsing, filled to the brim. Heaving, licking his lips when it stopped. Feeling his shackles pop open. “Rise, khirion.”

Cole sighed. “I told Lorrie and all is good.” Losing his words a bit when Jean-Pierre turned to him. “I mean, I can go with you on the trip.” Jean-Pierre grinned. “She didn’t bite your head off?” “It’s not Natalie, so… It’s fine. I’ll have to help more when I get home, that’s all. It’s fair.” Jean-Pierre rolled his eyes as he broke some pieces of chocolate into their cups. “What a nightmare this sounds like, but it’s your life, my friend.” He let the machine churn the coffee into a cup, then handed it to Cole. “But we’ll have a great time in France, I’ll make sure of it.” Cole took the cup, wrapping his hands around that warmth. “if Natalie had said yes, would you have taken her?” Jean-Pierre waited until his coffee poured out, than turned and handed a spoon to Cole. “No. I like Mademoiselle but have no interest in sharing a week with her.” His eyes burned a bit as he stirred his coffee, pulling the spoon out filled with melted dark chocolate. He swirled his tongue on it, not leaving Cole’s eyes. Smiling then. “Taste it.” Cole fished some chocolate out and licked his spoon clean, his face burning a bit. “It’s good.” Looking up into Jean-Pierre’s eyes, his heart racing. “But you would spend a week with me…?” Jean-Pierre smiled. “Not only I would, but I will. It will do you good, to be away a bit. Family life can be draining, I imagine. We get along well, as guys, so all is golden.” Cole blushed a bit. “It’s our social tomorrow too…” “Oh, I’ve seen your name.” Grinning, he sipped his coffee. “I’m thrilled you could free yourself.” Cole shrugged. “Lorrie knows we have this every year.” “I hope you like dancing.” He wiggled his eyebrows, scraping the chocolate from the bottom of his empty cup. Sucking it off the spoon with a loud smack. “No… I don’t dance, usually…” “Oh, too bad. Dancing is very liberating.”

This is the first time the MCs of my current gladiator WIP (yes, it's Ancient Rome again, unsurprisingly...) can exchange a few words. It's also hurt-comfort with some tender wound care and yeaaarrrrning. (cw wound, pain)
Rufus was holding that pot of thick cream, meeting his amused eyes. Almost fainting, but he pushed his fingers in that coolness, and dared to put them on his wound. A soft slide, pushing the cream on that murdered skin. Watching him clench his jaw, silent. “I’m sorry…” Soft, daring this as he glanced around, but the room was busy with the doctor and some other slaves helping him and Varrus pestering the men. Looking back at him, straight into his eyes. “Thank you.” Deep, those few words made his heart warm. “It’s nothing...” Making sure that every stroke of his fingers was a caress too, making sure not to be too harsh as he smeared that cream all over his wound. Looking around, he took a bandage, and wrapped it around that thick arm. He had to lift it and the scent of his sweat made Rufus breathe shallow, that patch of dark hair under his armpit, so close. Making sure the wound was covered, he knotted that strip of fabric, patting it, soft. “All good?” “Yes.” Raising his eyebrows, his eyes asking. “I’m Rufus.” Daring a small smile when his heart was dancing. Whispering. “I know your name…” This time, he got the shadow of a smile, but they had also heard Varrus so Brutus stood, and walked away before anyone could notice anything. Rufus watched his broad back, the love handles bulging over his belt, his thick thighs, and he had to swallow. Damn it… That young heart, leaping like a colt.

Emmett Carlson turned to his son. “What a shithole! It’s only temporary. We should have at least one of the stables built back up in spring.” “Spring? I can’t stay here that long! You’ve seen this mess… not to mention that asshole.” “You don’t have a choice, Finnegan. And man up. Don’t let cowboys trample all over you. Nigel said you’re struggling with Lancelot? That horse cost a fortune.” Finnegan frowned. “We’ll get there… he’s just a bit stubborn but I’ll break him in soon enough.” “I sure hope so. I expect that you do decently this weekend, considering what I paid for that horse. Siegfried just pushed his finger on his lips, sliding to his knees, those eyes in their black frames on Charles. His hands slid to Charles’ ass, pulling, biting his hipbone. Charles swallowed a yelp, bracing himself on his shoulders. In a mild shock when Siegfried bit his way up his body. Wide nips and licks as he pushed his shirt up, gliding his mouth on Charles’ skin. Buck is a real foodie in my trucker WIP.
After getting his food and walking back to his truck, he's stopped by a young guy in run-down clothes and cheap make-up. Even if Buck doesn't want to do anything with him, he takes pity on him and invites him to warm up in the truck. (cw eating)
“Trouble?” He sort of knew, reaching his hand out, his thumb swiping softly a dark spot near his left eye. Seeing that small flinch of his face. “And what’s this?” That heat of his skin made him weak a bit. “Make-up.” “Right…” Cursing himself internally as he opened the door. “Hop in… but we won’t do anything, ok? You warm up, I eat, and then maybe I’ll give you some change.” “Fine!” So eager, it kicked at his heart, but he just smirked, stepping up, pulling himself up. He put the bag down and reached his hand out. “Come.” Pulling, surprised that he seemed to weigh nothing. He sat in the driver’s seat, and took the bag as that young man settled, his eyes roaming around. “When have you eaten last?” Rummaging in the bag. He licked his lips. “This morning.” A smooth lie, his arms clenched around his body. Musing a bit, a sigh, as he took his fries out and handed it to him. “Here. Eat.” He raised a thin hand, the nails painted dark purple with glitter. “No… I can’t…” “Eat or I’ll kick your ass out. That’s the deal.” Gaging, but those light blue eyes under his dark hair never wavered, his hand holding that large portion of fries. He took it, his heart beating harder. “Thanks…” He just nodded, fishing that large, dripping burger out of the bag. He bit into it, holding back a moan, because of that guy. But alone, he would have moaned and kicked a bit too. Food was everything. It was salvation and happiness, and more. Letting the savour burst in his mouth, on his tongue, all those notes of meat, bacon and cheese mixing with the pickles, tomatoes and the sauce, and the sweetness of the buns. Heaven, heaven… Glancing at that young guy who had gingerly picked a fry out and was chewing on it softly. Going for more as his cheeks colored. It made him all warm too, to watch him eat. Curious too, as he could not even understand why the fuck he had this guy in his truck in the first place. He had never had a prostitute, ever.

Cedric and Jack are getting adjusted to their life together, as allocated husbands, and Cedric being new at the mining colony, and having a traumatic past. But, he's also falling a bit for his big husband.
Cedric looked at the clock, the flat silent as he didn’t bother switching on the screen. That background noise of the howling, whistling wind almost familiar, the soft rumble of the ventilation shafts of the complex, various other metallic noises which had made him jolt sometimes. He was cooking, listening to that small radio built into the wall, music and some bantering. The local station, supposed to cheer people up. Even if Cedric was feeling a bit more at home, he had a lump in his throat when he thought of Jack and him. They hadn’t tried again to go all the way after that first and, according to Cedric, disastrous first time when he had tried to ride Jack on the sofa. Failing. And even if Jack had soothed him and had told him it was all fine, Cedric was still unsure if they would make it. Friday. At least they had the weekend to look forward to. Checking the chicken in the sonar oven, he put the lid on the green beans to keep them warm. Turning to the door when It opened, his heart skipping a beat. That fear melting into joy. He rushed to Jack and laced his arms around his neck, going straight for a kiss before Jack even had a chance to kick his boots off. Even if his arms were cramping, Jack laced them around Cedric and pulled him up to his mouth. Swallowing that small squeal when Cedric’s feet left the floor. Jack just slid his hands under his ass and pulled him up, feeling Cedric lace his legs around his waist. He wasn’t too heavy, not for him, and it felt good to hold him, make out, a new warmth invading his chest, making his heart race. Cedric just clung to him after that initial surprise, but he could also feel his arms tremble, so he broke the kiss, looking into his eyes. “Let me go, I’m heavy.” “You’re not.” His wide smile, but his eyes were tired. Cedric cupped his face. “You look exhausted.” Jack let him go, looking down at him. “Yeah…”
