The State Department posted this, which prompted speculation that the reference to passports being invalidated means they plan to mass-invalidate passports.
Is my passport still valid if I have an X marker on it, or if it lists a sex other than my sex at birth? A passport is valid for travel until its date of expiration, until you replace it, or until we invalidate it under federal regulations.

The State Department web page on updating your passport claims it has not been updated since February 2024. However, just two days ago, it had an FAQ about changing your gender marker that is now gone.
