I don’t think that’s an insurmountable issue. There are many ways different industries have handled this over time and it’s just a matter of seeing what academia comes up with. There’s no way this function disappears, it just may be outside the current institutions.

We’ve seen how open source researchers can make huge strides outside established research institutions. The information to educate ourselves is already out in the wild. What the universities aren’t obsolete for is accreditation, a testament that a person is competent and experienced as they claim.

It was a great demonstration, and it got people to go outside and find other like minded people in the crowd- but events like that have diminishing returns as they go on unless there are actionable goals that people are striving for and a diversity of tactics in their pursuit

I think at least in some places we are reaching critical degrees of awareness about how undemocratic things have become. Some cities have been protesting consistently since February already. Things have if anything been moving faster than anyone expected them to politically and economically

The British tried to leave India peacefully (note that the resistance against them wasn’t peaceful) but war still erupted because the purpose of the empire is to destabilize the local culture. I agree guns aren’t sufficient. Guns don’t destroy tanks and bunkers and buildings very well- all things which must be destroyed to usher in a new post-colonial era for the US. But Guns are the ground floor, the personal protection a fighter has for his other missions.
