This suggests informal influence through sophisticated legal reasoning > formal institutional leverage. May require reframing how power operates in multi-level systems and how judges use legal argumentation to navigate political pressures.

Two core findings:
• 1) Contra theory, EU member states influence courts MORE when they lack formal override power - ECJ responds more to legal arguments (-0.174) than credible threats (+0.048).

• 2) Referring court hierarchy fundamentally shapes ECJ behavior - it’s not just background noise.

Today I realized that in the pursuit of genuine scientific inquiry, one does not accumulate facts, but rather maps the contours of knowledge itself —what is knowable and what is not with our current tools. A kind of epistemic cartography, tracing the topology of truth as it stands at present.
