this band is beloved in my family as is this song.

and am proud (?) to have made myself equally as mortified in public as my dude was for being called out for having resting bitch face. it was an experience. no doubt we are a couple of fucking weirdos.

he becomes confused and thrown off, thinking we might be related, and i clarify that nonono, my mom and dad were at a party at *his* dad's house (comedian would've been in his early teens at that point) and had sex in his bed. anyway, i'm now doing the thing where i rethink every second of that...

so then i blurt out, to change the subject in front of a few hundred people, that, reportedly, i was concieved in the comedian's dad's bed. which is 100% true. he cracks up and says "my dad was a whore!" and i nod, because he talks about his dad often in his shows.

too old for that shit. but the band sounds great. as was night heron.

there was something so special about discovering a new band (college radio, libraries, small record stores) and sound that parents weren't familiar with and therefore may not have been open to. i feel like pop culture is much more of a shared experience now than it used to be for sure.

we didn't have easy internet access to *anything* like we do now so at the beginning, that was all i had.
