His whole speech can be found here, and if you’re a psychologist or social scientists, read it today, and for many days after. I worked hard to find a link that wasn’t through APA, they did not listen to his words (thread for a different day).

Even with the other party in power, our country’s ethos of white supremacy would rather focus on the failures of individuals than the failures of a system. That “better than MAGA” excuses a lack of radical change necessary to lift all out of the dark.

He also quotes Victor Hugo in saying “ 'If a soul is left in the darkness, sins will be committed. The guilty one is not he who commits the sin, but he who causes the darkness.'” In a system of whiteness we often blame the results of our systems on the individuals and not the system itself.

That the white majority “is resisting (change) and producing chaos while complaining that if there were no chaos orderly change would come.”
We still see this today as the white systems and majority again complain about protesting “the right way” or our congress’ cowardice in the face of fascism.

But in the tech startup space, the reward is cold hard cash.

Reputation schmeputation.

And so this requires a very different sort of due diligence from science reporters who, because of their domain of work, are used to interviewing reasonably trustworthy subjects.

Nature etc. have yet to adapt.
