We’re disappointed that the Chilterns National Landscape boundary review has been cancelled due to Defra funding cuts. We’re grateful to all who supported the project & will continue working with Natural England & Defra to push for funding to complete it.

Currently just outside the #Chilterns National Landscape (but for how long?) Danesfield embodies an interesting tension between two of the area’s special qualities - its designed landscapes and its hillforts. @chilternsnl.bsky.social @hillfortian.bsky.social
The latest post on the blog (bit.ly/4hjdD7X) explores the garden at Danesfield House, in Buckinghamshire. The site of an Iron Age hill fort, C17, C18 and C20 houses, work by both Pugin and Pulham and Son, and an RAF base during WWII, it has a fascinating history.

In other (equally exciting) planning news, the Government’s full response to July’s consultation has also been published (bit.ly/4gwBVLX). It lists the many further planning reforms we can expect to see in 2025: prepare yourselves. [1 of 5]

As festive traditions go, the issue of a pre-Christmas NPPF probably isn’t the *most* anticipated, but it does appear to be a thing, now. Following July’s consultation, the revised NPPF was issued yesterday (bit.ly/3BsYXEu), and replaces last December’s version. [1 of 4]

This is cool*, and surely unique, but by no means the only weird and wonderful icehouse in the #Chilterns National Landscape (see link in original post).

* #SeeWhatIDidThere?
I have a new favourite icehouse: the extraordinary air raid shelter/icehouse combination at Stonor Park. Fascinating in its own right, but also a rare and welcome opportunity to get inside an icehouse. The blog post on icehouses has been updated accordingly: bit.ly/3X8PkTm.
