Samara: now we're talking! He'd be lucky to have a woman like her in his life. A career-driven, morally focussed, thoughtful MILF with similar views on murder. But basic bro Shep wouldn't stick around; he'd meet Morinth and either try to clap her, or freak out at the prospect of being a step-dad.

Tali'Zorah vas Normandy/Neema: she's Shep's cousin. This is a new low. Maybe they reconnect at Christmas or something? But memories of splashing about in the paddling pool come flooding back, and Shep should back away before something wrong happens. For god's sake Shep, find someone else!

Miranda Lawson: She's the Bossbitch working for the unethical company; in our world, she'd be unapologetically working for Arms Dealers or trading Palm Oil for Nazi gold. Shep would meet her on Citadel Tinder and think he's got a shot. But after one date, she ghosts.

Liara T'Soni: while she is older than Shep, she's a naive sweet summer child. If Shep rocks up to Alliance Navy parties with her, he'll justify their relationship with the line "she's actually very mature for her age" but everyone (Anderson, Hackett, Udina) will just be uncomfortable.

I disagree (respectfully). I was hyped as hell when all those various Kangs got together cheering and looking to spoil for a fight.
Completely walking away from the character and how big he was clearly going to be seemed to be a panic decision, and proves the screws are loose a bit.

I read this too when they dropped JM, and it immediately smelt like bullshit. The whole Multiverse saga has been a wash, and JM was a walking PR disaster after what happened.

While I'm happy to see the actor return, and I'm sure this will factor into the film somewhere and create some interesting dynamics amongst the team...the hype and cost of RDJ returning is eye-watering and you really do have to ask was here ANYBODY else they could have cast?

It's kind of why all these trailers and hype machines around returning characters is meaningless.
