Feeling grateful for the landscape. @dangerwood.bsky.social got our first deer of the year and we’re trying to be more deliberate about connecting to the forest through our stomachs. Deer bone broth. Hickory nuts for banana bread. Muscadine grapes. Chicken of the woods. Beech nuts. Goldenrod tea.

Me and @dangerwood.bsky.social are scouting for remote public land in the Appalachian Mountains to hunt black bear. We’re experimenting with paddleboards for access and packing out. Hunting WNC without dogs is difficult post-Helene climate disaster, but it seems very rewarding.
