An important part of scientific practice! For a historical and non-digital comparison, in my research I highlight the role of engineers, technicians, instrument makers and similar categories in the complex workings of mid-20th century astronomy.

Once a week, on Thursday mornings, I attend the @nordic-rse.bsky.social coffee break where we meet and chat of everything. This morning for example we chatted about the difference between people who code pragmatically and those who code elegantly! Come check us out! nordic-rse.org/events/meeti...

Finally, there is some space for networking and skills development. I am fortunate enough to attend at least one conference or workshop every year and meet up with researchers or other RSEs. And in my group we have one meeting each week to communicate our current workload and support each other.

Of course, the largest amount of my time is spent developing. Different RSEs have different strategies: some weeks I will work a bit on each of my projects, some weeks I only deal with one or two chunky tasks. This also depends on upcoming deadlines and time needed to obtain something.

But how is my day as an RSE split?

Some days I am in a lot of meetings to coordinate different projects. RSEs rarely have only 1 or 2 projects, every RSE I know has at least 4 or 5. This creates lots of overhead! Some projects require weekly meetings, some monthly meetings. It can be a lot!

Nope, the beneficiaries of the grant are institutions, not individuals. So the nationality of applicants plays no role that I know of... Did you apply?

(And yes, what a wonderful news for those of us who applied this year)
