Absolutely! I think even my five-year-old would be into it!

As someone who works on middle-school social studies textbooks, this is extremely depressing. It's hard enough to see coverage of the 2016 and 2024 elections in there.

So sorry for your loss, Patrick.

I'm so tired of the "protests do nothing" crowd. A friend told me protesting Tesla was stupid. I've been sending him weekly updates on the stock price.

Schumer: "These guys are a threat to democracy, which is why I am going to conduct business as usual in the Senate." It looks so ridiculous to the median voter. Why would they believe what you're saying if your actions don't underscore it?

Do the people supporting Trump we're looking to persuade not care about the Constitution?

Win what? In the context of this vote, punching back at Musk and Trump, further galvanizing public opinion and political action against them, would be a win. People are desperate to see someone take a stand for our democracy.

This is such a great point. They made the case that not only was slavery morally wrong and a violation of the Constitution, but a threat to the material conditions of free labor.

Dems should absolutely be willing to see this out as far as it goes. And people will wake up if the economy is tanking and the government isn't funded. Let the Republicans react to something for once, rather than dictating the conflict.

How about seizing the moral high ground that you will not vote to fund the anti-Constitutional project in the executive branch. Who cares what the leverage is. You're waking people up to this not being normal.

Do you think there's any room for the messaging that Rs didn't include any D priorities in the bill, even though they needed their votes, in effect causing it to fail (if it does)?

instead of affirming trump’s belief that he is king of america, it is important to recognize that federalism provides states the tools to push back or at least ignore these orders

Yes! Why are we continuing to scold and shame them for not respecting norms or politicizing tragedies? It's pointless. They don't care. People don't care. Seize the initiative by finding a vector of attack and make that argument to the American people.

Alex and I were just having this conversation last night. Fighting for people matters, even if you don't win!

You have opportunity after opportunity to create something lovely for yourself or others. Every moment you choose to sit and think about horrors beyond your control, every time you make the choice to look for more and more details about just HOW bad... you are turning away from those opportunities.

it is, effectively, a view that nothing should be done to solve any problem if there might be a trade-off somewhere for someone who you could code as “marginalized.” it is just anti-government conservatism with a different aesthetic!

A hidden bonus: over time, doctors will become increasingly efficient in surgery as more and more people end their operations early because they don't want to pay for that extra anesthesia. 😂

And if your inclination is to take it as a given that the 2028 presidential election won't be free and fair, it seems to me that that makes blue-state governor's races and state leg races MORE important, not less. Because if you're right, American "democracy" is about to change radically.

Finally, some good news for Dems. After his success in Wisconsin, I was wondering if he would ever run for chair of the DNC.
