The real me: writes stories and a blog about neuroscience, loves cooking, hiking, & audio dramas, has eclectic tastes in music, books, & movies, makes vintage model kits, does tai chi & yoga, and plays viola badly.
Gardens Aglow, Boothbay. The Botanic Gardens lit up, featuring giant trolls, wolves, and so much more. A wonderful evening out.

Next up on the workbench: Maria from Metropolis. It's unusual to find a model of her in human form, not the Maschinenmensch. Resin model about 4" high from Blackheart.

The models to the left of my desk: 1908 Voisin-Farman III (first to achieve more than 100 mile flight), 1909 Avro Triplane (first all-British aeroplane)and 1908 Antoinette V (first to reach 1,000m altitude).

Renwal kits from the early 1960s, which makes them slightly older than me.

"Tangerine Dream have released more than 100 studio albums..." I think I know about 30 of them. Oh, and that doesn't include soundtracks, compilations or live albums, let alone any of Franke or Froese's solo albums. I think that makes them officially more prolific than Willie Nelson.

The models to the right of my desk: 1909 Bleriot XI (first to cross the Channel), 1909 Curtiss Golden Flyer (first to achieve 50mph), 1904 Wright Flyer (where it all started). Renwal kits from the early 1960s, which makes them slightly older than me, though not the oldest in my collection.

Over 300% - that'll do. And there are still eight weeks to go.

Love getting up to see this.

Not many metal bands include panpipes and ocarina, but Tierramystica pull it off.

Never forget.

I love looking out of my office window to see this.

I'm spending the next couple of weeks catching up on audio dramas while I make models - and discovered, to my very great joy, that there are four Space:1889 shows!

I hate to think how much electricity I consumed in my recent AI-based project. A lot.

I just used my absentee ballot to vote for continuing to allow absentee ballots in Maine.

Then arises the third and inexorable question: If Civilisation has increased the producing power of the average man, why has it not bettered the lot of the average man? There can be one answer only—MISMANAGEMENT. (Jack London, The People of the Abyss)

Much like Orwell's Down & Out in Paris & London

Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning is fun, but wildly implausible. A Black female US President? That's absurd!

Apparently today is Black Cat Appreciation Day. This one's been my companion for 15 years.

Samhain, I appreciate you!

Four years ago, I pre-ordered a model of Konga (1961 Kong rip-off), and promptly forgot about it. Today it arrived. Fortunately it's on Prime, so I can make sure he's the authentic shade of purple-ish blue. (What?)

One of these days I will remember to book two full days off after a vacation. One to recuperate, and one to catch up with all the things that didn't get done. And don't book meetings for the first day back to work either - it'll take me all morning to catch up with emails and Slack.

My new favorite mug, courtesy of Mark Wells, author of the Cambridge Gothic series, set in St John's College (my alma mater). Fill it with hot stuff, and the image of the Bridge of Sighs appears.

This would make a great business card.
