Was in Edinburgh for the weekend. This morning I tried to get a square and egg roll, but they gave me link and egg.

Disaster.

Watching the Kaiser Chiefs at Temple Newsam on Saturday, and they start being very Leeds United. Something tells me that for most of the attendees, something amazing is happening.

Great concert, I just don't know my trophies and my strikers.

I finally got around to trying gandalf.lackera.ai and it was a real fun way to kill an hour (even if one tricke solved many step)

The latest depressing experience with vibe coding.. A really fun little self-contained project, a treat for myself around the less technical tasks. Anyway, some more junior engineers have some free time, and offer to help. Their first suggestion, outsource it all to Gemini.

The only time I remember seeing a 4 order-of-magnitude speedup was early in my career, when one engineer (who guarded his code like a dragon's horde) told another "you won't get more than a few milliseconds out of that, I've microoptimised it".
1.5x speedup - that's great!
2x speedup - amazing!!!
5x speedup - somebody fucked up
You know I’m senior because my immediate response to seeing a 20-fold speedup after a code change is being suspicious

I'm not at all sure about this Only Connect answer.

Shouldn't it be:
Sunday
Tue 27th Dec
Mon 26th Dec

When Christmas day falls on a Sunday, the Christmas Day bank holiday is substituted for the Tuesday but the Boxing Day bank holiday remains on the Monday.

Bluesky is a great way to add comments to your blog or site. I've made a web component to make that easy to do.

Load the script, then use the tag. Looks great by default, but is super-customisable with CSS vars and parts. Lazy loads, zero frameworks

Hexpansion idea for @emfcamp.bsky.social 26
Somebody at Microsoft decided "experts at Ignite need to stand out from the crowd" and then like 10 increasingly desperate meetings were had about how exactly and the result was this.
