For those on here who are devs or dev adjacent…how would you describe 1-on-1 meetings to people who don’t know?

Definitely have been enjoying this. Everything looks nice, and it’s the first light mode I’d consider using. Weird feeling.

The struggle of teaching software dev in a public HS is I’m supposed to be the senior dev for 60+ juniors that I can only pay in knowledge and dad jokes.

Fortunately, my students are awesome. 😎

Do you think middle school sucks? You’re not alone. @alv9n.com uses a survey of millions of students to show how our brains and our sense of belonging change in middle school.

I love feeling like I make a breakthrough in my learning. Finally feel like I’m grasping jest.

What’s a learning breakthrough you feel you’ve had lately?

My guest blog post on @expo.dev is live! @galaxies.dev had a question out there one day and I knew it would be a topic to come back to! Read up on Ignite Generators here: expo.dev/blog/increas...
Increase your Expo-nent power with Ignite Generators
Did you know that Ignite's powerful generators can be used in any React Native project...even one bootstrapped with npx create-expo-app?

It’s cool to see the React team land on needing to deprecate something and make sure it’s well documented how to move forward if your project used it. 😁
Today, we’re deprecating Create React App for new apps, and encouraging existing apps to migrate to a framework.

We’re also providing docs for when a framework isn’t a good fit for your project, or you prefer to start by building a framework.

I’ve got one of my CS students wanting to do a personal project to make a 2D platformer in Unity. Any suggestions on resources I should point him to or look into myself?

The nice thing about smallpox is that, if it comes back, they'll be able to make vaccines...but also so will I. Just take a bit of a puss from someone who is recovering and scrape it on the skin!!!

(don't do this)

This one is very good and goes for way more than dollars. A great way to get a little more intuitive about large numbers.
The difference between $1 Million and $1 Billion is about $1Billion

I hate doing "how to get a job in tech" type content, but I'm so tired of the awful advice I've been seeing. Finally took the time to make an updated jobs video, I hope this one can help some people out 🫡 youtu.be/2PiM2e4RtTg

a fun idea we added in Leet Heat is "commercial breaks": @anniesexton.com, @joelhooks.com, @marisamorby.com, and I made goofy tv commercials — some for real products, like @jetbrains.com, others for absolute nonsense

no regrets. it's okay to spend too much time on silly things just because 💜

Time for an experiment. I’ll post this on Bluesky and Threads. I want to see which gets more reach in the TTRPG space. I’ll share results on Monday.

Comment on this post with a roleplaying game experience or memory. Let’s gather as many of these as possible!
