Have not been on the U-Bahn or to Vienna in fifteen years but I read your sentence in the voice of that announcer in my head without thinking about it. Hilarious! Thank you!

Second your motion. I’ll add three things that also strain any UK/USA comparisons: Juan Linz’s article on Presidential systems; Western Hemisphere colonialism; Slavery.

On the other hand deep fried tofu is pretty awesome. Crunchy and squishy on the inside. Also pairs well with a wide range of sauces.

Temporarily. Same thing with the Fatherland Front and the Austrian Civil War of 1934. It worked out great until the Anschluss four years later. After 1945 the angry ruraloids figured out how to cooperate with Red Vienna as a matter of self preservation.

They still believe it. They believe that if the Regents, the University Presidents, and the Academic Vice Presidents don’t nip this “woke” stuff in the bud, it’s just November 1917 all over again. Red Scare.

I can’t imagine how to replace the air traffic control system in a month, but I have no doubt there are people deluded enough to approve it and software companies shitty and dishonest enough to sell it.

This August (2025) they told us Workday was going to replace everything— student records, scheduling, recruiting, all the record keeping everything except Office365 & D2L. This includes legacy systems going back to the 90s. It’s going to be a complete mess.

My state university was forced by the system office to adopt Workday as our new accounting and payroll software. The rollout was July 2024 and it was a cluster F. It’s still broken and processes are changing every few weeks. There are some accounts that are updating from Summer 2024.

That was so gross. I wanted to leave the movie theater. Instead I sat there for the whole thing, hoping it was going to get better.
