A lean, propulsive read that is, on the surface, a blow-by-blow account of an amateur cycling race. Underneath that, however, are darkly hilarious musings on suffering, ego, and why the hell people race on bicycles in the first place. I don't know shit about cycling and I LOVED this.

Happy 20th birthday to an absolute landmark album for me: The Psychic Paramount's 'Gamelan Into the Mink Supernatural'. Led Zeppelin mixed with Can mixed with My Bloody Valentine. It was featured in an Aquarius Records (RIP) newsletter and I was hooked from the sound sample.

This was a preposterously good year for music. For those interested, I put together my metal and non-metal EOY lists. I usually do one list, cos I do feel that there are only 2 kinds of music (good and the other kind), but it was a lot to digest. Anyhoo, maybe you'll find something you like.
