Math geek. Software engineer. Mostly here to follow authors, learn about new books, shout about books I love. (And encourage everyone to have all their books released as audiobooks when possible)

Also, looking to meet IRL friends in the Denver area.

I actually looked at some demographics maps, and chose a neighborhood near majority nonwhite neighborhoods, thinking mostly I didn’t want my kid growing up in a 100% white school. It wasn’t until after we bought that I saw a map of the school boundary lines— they are absolutely wild.

Right? When we moved here, we had the option of being part of the white takeover of a gentrifying neighborhood, or living in a neighborhood that was historically white (and is still at least 90% white).

I was shocked by the number of people who brought a single gift to a birthday party for twins my son attended in first grade!

Eh… if their kids are older than elementary school age, they re-enter the zone where this is a good idea. Plus, this whole list started out labeled as “gifts for artistically-inclined friends”.

For a while I was a math-CS double major. I was 2.5 years in when I decided that it wasn’t worth all the uncomfortable feelings— I didn’t have the word to describe the microaggressions and whatnot that were 20 times as bad in CS as in math. One major was fine. Still eventually became a software eng.

I miss those little dudes so much! We moved to Colorado years ago and they just don’t have them here.

I will march into gunfire for the candidate that treats million dollar white collar finance criminals like ICE treats nannies.

When he was two, my kid licked the wall at the pediatrician's office, looked at me and laughed, then licked the wall again before I could stop him. Two days later he had Fifth disease.
