Things I just have to get out.
Oh weird - just noticed that Wikipedia lists the track lengths as 6:41, which is also matched by Bandcamp. For some reason my Plex app shows it at 6:42 though…

Why do none of the reviews of Krallice’s Ygg Huur comment on the fact that 4 of the 6 tracks are exactly 6 minutes and 42 seconds long?? I feel like that’s pretty notable and I’m curious how and why they made it that way. #metalsky

Downloaded the full discography of Krallice on Bandcamp as a Christmas listening project the other day and really enjoying it, but can’t get past Years Past Matter. Takes a couple listens to get into, but once it clicks it’s hard to stop listening! #metalsky

Last thing I’ll say is that I love the band logo on the album cover. Absolutely indecipherable, like all good logos should be.

Current listening: Dead as Dreams by Weakling. Really just a stunning album whose legendary status truly does it justice. I’m amazed by the almost contrapuntal guitar writing throughout, with riffs that complement each other while subtly shapeshifting, like smoke from two fires

Current listening: Shaking the Habitual by the Knife. What’s amazing about it is that it’s is structurally a drone record -

Occasionally I start thinking I’m too cool for the Brahms piano quintet and then I’m reminded that no I’m not. Current listening: Arthur Rubinstein with the Guarneri Quartet going hard in the scherzo.

Feels notable that Politico is now using this straightforward description of Trump as “a longtime associate of Epstein.”

Ok my nascent obsession with Holmboe continues with his symphony 6, which is absolutely fantastic! Feels like a missing link between Shostakovich and Allan Pettersson.

Today’s (and yesterday’s) listening: Beethoven’s late quartets with Quatuor Ébène, particularly op. 131 and the Große Fuge. Music that’s harsh, uncompromising, and depressing, but still somehow offers hope without making it seem inevitable or easy.

His Dresden Bruckner 9 has ruined all other B9 recordings for me! This is the only one I can listen to.

I unintentionally on purpose got my 4-year-old into Serpents Unleashed by Skeletonwitch and now it’s the only thing she wants to hear… and man these lyrics are a lot less unintelligible than I thought! 😬 but anyway, damn this is a great album!

I love his Ring but for some reason have not listened to his other Wagner, but I decided to change that and just picked this up from my library yesterday!
