Very sad to hear the news of Al Trautwig’s passing. Al elevated our @nycmarathon broadcasts with his enthusiasm and gravitas over many years, incl when Fred Lebow ran his race battling cancer in ‘94, the world came to run & honor NYC in 2001, & ‘07 double weekend with the men’s USA Olympic trials.
Al Trautwig was a staple of New York sports broadcast media whose voice also traveled nationally.

As we celebrated much needed /deserved progress for women’s sports in the USA, this is a sobering & heartbreaking story of the reality women runners /athletes are facing in Kenya. A must read. A must consider what can be done. Good for @nytimes.com placing it on the cover of weekend paper.
Really pleased to see last week’s report on the gender-based violence faced by Kenyan women runners on the front page of the NYT.
