After our weekend trip to see the illuminated garden trail, we went back to Calke today to see the house decorated and the mice preparing for Christmas

The Christmas illuminated trail at Calke Abbey is wonderful this year. I loved the light and music displays on the hall and among the trees

Persuaded myself into going out, if only for a walk round the block. Not too cold in the sun but winter is definitely here

Moody shots at Carsington Water’s Stones Island yesterday. The dramatic change in the weather is almost unbelievable

Took advantage of today’s sunshine to visit Carsington Water. I knew the water level was low but I didn’t expect it to be this empty!

A friend won a guess the weight competition for a massive pumpkin. It’s far too big for them so she gave me a quarter, which will keep me in soup and chillies and curries for ages. It’s knobbly on the outside but lovely and golden inside, and makes a lovely coloured soup

Walked a little further today, to the park where I can pretend to be walking in the woods
November 1, 2025 at 2:44 PM
The rain stopped, the sun came out, and I went for the shortest of short walks (first since I got this dreadful cold) and looked at someone else’s autumnal tree for a change

This passion flower has burrowed under the back fence and is turning the compost heap corner into somewhere a little more exotic

It’s been an up and down sort of week. Headed to Manchester on Monday feeling fine, came down with a streaming cold on the way, and have spent most of the week since in bed. Today though I got up and looked at the garden trees in the sunshine
