Who controls how our food is grown, sold and distributed? This clip struck a chord in me. NZ isn't the US but we're going down a similar path. Our major food producing companies are increasingly being taken over by large, international conglomerates. NZ's agricultural wealth was built on

A reminder of the varying roles of the different animals in an ecosystem to produce a balanced whole.
Giraffes, the tallest animal on Earth, help ecosystems thrive by feeding on upper plants, letting sunlight reach lower vegetation across Africa’s savannahs.

Forests cover 1/3 of the Earth's land, provide clean air and water, store carbon, and are home to much biodiversity.

However, 10 million hectares are cleared annually by humans—equivalent to the size of Portugal.

I just had a reminder to never rely solely on a computer program to save your work. 600 words - just gone! It said it saved it, but our internet is unreliable and Word auto saving is to One Drive. Fine if you're in a city. But in the country; not so good. 🤥

Can someone please give Minister van Valden a history lesson? Requiring equity pay claims to prove gender discrimination effectively removes all claims based on historical bias that valued work done mostly by women eg nurses, early childhood teachers, caregivers, more than work done mostly by men.

I jumped on YouTube to browse for some new ideas for scifi books. The reviews there are really variable. Including one that starts, "I don't read much science fiction..." Not a good way to sell me your recommendations, I have to say. Nor is using a robotic bot voice. I can google for books too!

A must read article by Cory Doctorow. I've always felt that SF is a uniquely hopeful genre - even dystpian SF. Because SF promises there WILL be a future.
Feed your brain something substantial and check out this article by Cory Doctorow on the current state of science fiction and how to imagine the alternatives. locusmag.com/2023/07...

A heart breaking reminder of the reality of the Ukraine-Russia war. It's not just about land, minerals, resources. First and foremost, it's about real people whose lives have been destroyed and are still facing danger.

Musk's 4yr old son in the oval office is so funny. But let's call this out for what it is.
Child abuse.
There was no reason for Musk to put a pre-schooler through that or expose him to such a blaze of adult publicity.
And the man thinks he can lecture the world on how to behave?
This is the second clip of Musks son I've seen.

The first was him telling Trump to shut up.
The second is this one, "You're not the president".
Now I wonder where MiniMe got this notion from? 💀

My book TOIL AND STRIFE is free on #Kobo at the moment - but only for this weekend. I'd planned on making fancy new promo images tonight - but one of the perils of rural living is internet outages - it's as slow as as old tractor tonight! #booksky #sciencefiction

I just saw Anne Bishop's announcement of her new novel (in a new series), Turns of Fate. It looks awesome! So sad that I have to wait till November.

Well, that was a fun (not!) few days. I spent yesterday in hospital having an angiogram, then (yet another) stent put in. Not quite what I'd planned on this week. I've been lurking only on social media the last few weeks. Now I know why I had no energy for it. (1/2)
