Heavy rains flooded tents of displaced Palestinians in Gaza on Friday, sending cold water streaming across the camps and into families’ shelters. Circulating videos show devastating scenes, with soaked bedding and tent walls, and children standing in rising pools of runoff. Officials warn more than 900,000 Palestinians now face the risk of flooding as the Palestinian Meteorological Department issued alerts for flash floods, strong winds, heavy rain, and thunderstorms over the coming days. Israeli attacks on Gaza have left 85 percent of road, water, and sewage networks damaged or destroyed, turning rain into fast-moving torrents that barrel straight into tent camps, officials said. Gaza authorities noted Israel has deliberately blocked shelter aid, allowing in only 5 percent of the 300,000 tents promised under the ceasefire and leaving stockpiles trapped on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing. Tens of thousands of displaced people are living in torn tents, gutted homes, or improvised structures — and now face severe exposure in shelters that simply cannot withstand the rain.
