While I think representative democracy is valid, I don’t think it’s enough to have WG reps elected. How are they responsive to member concerns? What feedback mechanisms are in place. Much of the drama around electeds comes from members feeling they don’t have a say.

Yes agree about the endorsement process. I would like to see direct member input into strategy and approach to governing. This could happen through passing a yearly strategy document before the legislative session or something like that.

Earnest question…where does the democratic input of members fit into this? All I have seen from the model is a siloing away of electeds from democratic input by the membership.

It’s embarrassing.

On the whole we all need to work on keeping things political and not letting factionalism turn into grudges. That requires all parties to be truthful and direct with their politics and know that we’re all stuck together and a commitment to democracy and protecting the multi-tendency nature of DSA

Everyone can always tone it down a bit, but there is always going to be factional fights and that’s fine. We also aren’t all always moving in the same direction and we do need to democratically work that out.

Ehhh…I think this is a little wishful thinking. It CAN but there are competing interests and visions for the direction of the org. Not everything needs to be a drag out fight, but sometimes it does. In the grand scheme of socialist history DSA is actually very harmonious.

This is just cheap opportunism. Continuing to glom onto a disorganizing force for clout. I find it embarrassing.

That’s life in the ol’ bread and roses.

Not sure how this is relevant to the topic at hand.

I’m not a social democrat, but social democracy is part of a socialist tradition. I’m not saying people can’t be social democrats. The ideology here is still socialist though.

What constitutes socialism really isn’t up for debate. You can say you’re not a socialist, that’s fine. But you don’t get to argue the definition of socialism.
November 25, 2024 at 1:30 AM
That’s what socialism is and that’s why we need theory.

What you are calling for could theoretically happen under capitalism. Though it would not be sustainable for the long term. The removal of the profit motive and the emancipation of the working class from the capitalist class is necessary for a system to be socialist.
