Today we are in #Bradford celebrating the multitude of individuals, communities & organisations who are driving positive change across Y&H.

At this year’s gathering, we're delighted to be joined by other climate groups & commissions – to connect with each other and build on our shared ambitions.

I submitted a planning application for a new housing scheme with car free streets between homes and separate parking courts. Highways told us it didn't meet their "design standards" and we were told it would be rejected. We now have a scheme with a road in front of every home... 😔
On the one hand, we have research which shows children need safe, welcoming streets for play - and on the other, research which shows the deadly risk posed to children by SUVs.

Politicians and policymakers need to join the dots.

“these findings show that the local streets in which we live are just as important a space for children, and we need to make sure they are safe and welcoming spaces, free from traffic and pollution”

“Simple measures such as creating play-friendly residential areas and safer urban environments where families can relax, exercise, socialise and play can make a big difference. But it’s important to remember cultural differences and engage with communities to make these initiatives successful.”

Why would you take the plane when a train goes that fast? You arrive directly in the city center, and there's no hour long security check.
Please @ec.europa.eu tax kerosene and use the money to lower the price of rail.

Scroll your phone and you’ll see a London of fear and decline.

Walk its streets and you’ll find a city where difference is a strength and communities look out for one another.

The reality will outlast the fiction.

Layer upon layer of requirements hike up the cost and risk => fewer homes being built. @matthewpennycookmp.bsky.social please note

Improving the energy efficiency of our homes and switching to low carbon heating is a positive e thing. We need to talk more about the benefits - health being top of the list.

Pete Apps' post ahead of the publication of the Grenfell report is well worth reading. Pete's journalism on this issue has been groundbreaking and exemplary. Few others understand the intertwined failures of state, regulation & commercial interests to the depth he does. (I must get Pete on here...)
